South Africa: First Factory Occupation By Workers Since the 80s

mewusa logoMine-Line and Tap engineering in Krugersdorp became the site of the first factory occupation since the 1980s in South Africa. Organised by the Metal and Electrical Workers Union of South Africa (MEWUSA), more than one hundred workers took occupation of the factory on October 22nd to “secure assets and ultimately take-it-over” read a statement.  Furthermore, the occupation saw the start of a rolling public campaign to fight for the transfer of the company to the workers.
